40th Anniversary Reunion / What should I wear to the reunion?
« Last post by robkarr on July 17, 2008, 05:34:17 PM »
I've been asked by a couple of folks about the dress code for the reunion.
Dress code?  That sounds like high school when we were there.  No shorts, no tube tops, no long hair, blah, blah, blah...
Well, there's no dress code.  Take that Stanger and Vestal.  There's a new sheriff in town.
You are free to wear whatever you want.
People that I've spoken with about this are going for casual/dressy, as in shirt/slack & cocktail dresses.  You got a Hawaiian shirt you want to show?  Bring it on.  Girls, pant suit?  Sure, or if you lack personal awareness like a lot of current young girls and want to dress like Shania- though without her figure (are your tires over-inflated?).  Give it a try.
You have an Armani suit that will show us where you live?  I can't wait to see it.
Feel free to add to this thread with what you are going to wear and let's see if there's a trend.  I'll be moving music equipment during the day/evening, so I'll be in shorts if it's hot.  Yada yada, Lynbrook establishment.

40th Anniversary Reunion / Re: Other activities during reunion weekend

To say our goodbyes on Sunday, how about brunch at the Crow's Nest?  They open at 11:30, and have good proximity (it's on the south side of the harbor, just south of the boardwalk), parking, and ambience- nice place.  2 levels, outdoor deck.
I had eggs benedict yesterday on the Sacramento river.  Hmmm, I guess I already know what I'm going to order...

I'm up for catching up with gear heads on Saturday and a nice drive over Hwy 9. I have an unfinished 66 Mustang coupe for sale in Aptos (at my son's house). If it doesn't sell by the time of the reunion I'm driving it back to Oregon. Mark Murray 503.756.2773

40th Anniversary Reunion / Need a ride out from mid-west or along the way?
« Last post by robkarr on July 11, 2008, 09:08:54 PM »
Jim O'Brien is driving out to Santa Cruz from New Mexico for the reunion.  He offers 2 seats (and luggage space) in his car to anyone who wants to ride with him.  You can be anywhere along the trip route, you don't have to start in New Mexico.  He will also even back-track to OK or north TX if needed.

He can either take a north-ish route (interstate 40/I-70) through Colorado and Utah, or take the southern (interstate 40/I-10) path through Arizona and southern Calif.

If you want to find out more about Jim's plans (or help decide them:^)- email Rob Karr at lhs6840th@earthlink.net for Jim's contact information.  He's planning on leaving Aug 12.

Please let us know what hotel you're staying in if you're coming from out of town.  Martha and I will be staying at the Travelodge Santa Cruz, 525 Ocean Street.

Go to http://lhs68.net/40_invite.html#accomodations if you're looking for places to stay.  Make a post in this topic for other ideas.  People should be nailing this down.  Rooms will start drying up fast.

Becky's husband, Ken Gilson, has informed us that Becky is suffering from encephalitis.  She is recovering now, but was gravely ill and faces a long rehabilitation.

Cards can be sent to her at their home: 910 No. Atwood Court, Visalia, CA 93291.

I know I wish them the best.  She's such a sweet heart.

I've got a couple of proposals:
Friday (Aug 15)- Papa Doo Run Run is playing for free at the boardwalk stage (shows at 6 and 8PM).  Let's use that as a starting point.  We can meet near the group picnic area, which is behind the Cocoanut Grove as it meets the beach sand.  Bring your own delicious beverage (I'm sure there are alcohol restrictions- so be mindful of the container).
Sat (day) (Aug 16): There are at least a couple of folks staying in the valley.  So for those folks (of which I'm one) I propose meeting 9:30-11:30AM at Santana Row (used to be Town and Country) which has upscale shopping, food, and ambience- and also, every Saturday morning has a gathering (near the theater, in the back-most parking lot) of gear-heads who bring their Ferraris, Porsches, Lambos, Corvettes... and just yap about cars.  We stop shopping, eating or gawking Santana Row at 11:30, stop by Amato's and pick-up a great Philly steak sandwich (or whatever-wherever you want)  and head to Lynbrook for a picnic and walkabout.  We'll leave the school around 1:00 for a leisurely drive to Santa Cruz via Hiway 9, probably executing a rest stop in Ben Lomond at Henfling's or Don Quixote's.  We should arrive in Santa Cruz just after 3PM, giving folks a chance to find their hotels and get ready for the wing-ding at 6:30.
Sunday (Aug 17)- Brunch (maybe on the pier) has been suggested as well as golf (De La Viega?).
