Dear Old Viking, It is time to think of our 50th Reunion with joy! We made it and we should rejoice!! It was hard for me to believe that I was old enough to be celebrating my 67th Birthday. I have been getting some subtle hints that it could be true, even though I am 29 in my mind. Some hints I have felt lately: my affinity for Motown, my secret crush on Ricky Nelson, the need for readers in dark restaurants, the old people I hang out with, and the swarm of grandchildren. In planning, there are many things to organize and costs to be incurred. This letter is to start a fund so that the organizers who have stepped up will not have to use their own funds to reserve venues and put deposits on vendors. It could also defray the initial costs for attendees. If there is any cash left over, (like our 40th), it will be donated to the school, used to pay for the lhs68.net website, or a future reunion. Planning ideas are being kicked around. We are looking at a weekend of activities culminating with a dinner dance on Sunday night, with a picnic earlier on Sunday. The thinking is that some are coming long distances and might want to explore the changes and new fun in our old stomping grounds. There would be an attempt at reserving hotel rooms at a discounted group rate, but other options include Airbnb, VRBO, or RV grounds. I found rentals with many bedrooms in the area and old friends could share a house for the week. |
